On Election Day, you shared stories of tremendous dedication. Stories of joy and suffering and the grace that your fellow election officials displayed.
In Ben Hill County, Supervisor Cindy Dunlap was welcoming election returns and waiting to welcome her second child. Even though Cindy was in labor, she persevered until all her returns were in the office before heading to the hospital. Cindy delivered Kenzie Marie Dunlap March 10.
In Schley county, Mitzi Way found out on election day she had lost a close friend. Despite her obvious grief, Mitzi worked through the night to ensure her counties results were reported.
In Jackson county, Lori Wurtz got the sad news that her brother-in-law had suffered a fatal injury while on the job on Election Day. Lori managed to complete her duties in spite of this tragedy.
Lilvender Bolton, of Lincoln county, also lost her brother-in-law election week, and was committed to have her certified returns in by the deadline though she traveled to Texas for the funeral.
Our hearts go out to all of these officials and their families as they served their fellow citizens during these emotional times. This type of dedication deserves to be spotlighted.
We depend on counties to share the good work going on around the state to feature in our spotlight on excellence.
